Fort Davis, Texas hosts an annual July 4th parade and celebration. This little town is a pleasant surprise to those who take the time to drive up from the Permian Basin. It’s nearly the same elevation as Denver (yes, Texas has mountains) and is the home of the McDonald Observatory, large ranches, and some talented people.

The parade is a treat for many. It only stretches about a third of a mile, but people from all over Texas and the country come to see it. Kids on bikes, motorcycle clubs, a small cattle drive, “soldiers” from the Fort (a history fort from that housed Buffalo Soldier), horseback riders, and in the case of Lasso Boy, kids from a local dude ranch for kids come out and show off the skills they’ve learned while spending their summers out there.
